Overview for Week 16 and Finals
Congratulations! We are super close to being finished with this semester. It has been very stressful, and, although I have really, really enjoyed you guys and this class, I'm ready for a little break. :) I hope you guys will keep in touch though! A lot of your projects this semester are very much worth continuing and would very possibly be publishable. Let me know if you'd like to pursue the work you've done in this class further!
Ok, here's what is going on this week AND next week! (Finalize Proj. 3, Course Reflection Assignment, SSI, Meetings, Extra Credit):
1. You have until Sunday, May 3rd*** at midnight to finalize the website. That means you should go back to your three sections and proofread, add images, include bylines and dates, create interesting section titles, make sure you have cited sources at the end of your sections (you should cite and use hyperlinks in the text if possible), and generally designed your sections/pages in interesting but easy-to-read ways. ***I want to set a firm deadline since we are at the end of the semester, but I will not grade this project until May 6th at the earliest as I have to do a defense on the 5th. So, if you need to, you can work on this until midnight on May 5th.***
2. I have posted the course reflection assignment even though it isn't due until the end of next week. I figure that some of you will want to go ahead and finish up, so you are free to submit that whenever it's ready. You could think of this course reflection as the final exam. We don't have a final exam, but it is worth enough points to really think through it and put in some time. Instructions/info are posted with the assignment. There are a couple of steps, so make sure you read the instructions very carefully.
3. Please complete the Course Evaluation (SSI).
4. Let me know if you'd like to "meet." I'm happy to go over your sections of the site with you, or we could discuss revisions to your previous projects, if you want to resubmit those for a higher grade. Just send me an email, and we can set something up. :) We can also talk through email if you prefer.
5. Extra Credit? If you would like extra credit, there are two options. The first option is to revise one or both of your previous projects and resubmit them. Feel free to reach out if you want more feedback on one or both of them. The second option is to create another section on the website that will go in a "Blog" page. If no one wants to do this, we won't add this page at all. Essentially, you would write an opinion piece related to the site. It could be something about your grandma posting misinformation, how popular media (Saturday Night Live, for example) is discussing misinformation, or just general thoughts/ideas about state and federal leadership. Or, maybe your place of work is doing a really good/bad job of doing things based on accurate information. These would be informal, no sources required, blog-post type things. They could be a paragraph or several paragraphs long. That's up to your needs as a writer. If you are interested in doing this extra credit, send me an email. Remember that the site needs to be completed by the 6th, so let me know before that. *** 1 Blog Post = 3-5 points; 2 Blog Posts = 5-7 points.
